I just ran. I couldn’t take it anymore. I ran from my loved ones. I ran from my enemies. My sneakers skidded on the cool marble floor. I stopped in front of the elevator. I heard the running of my parent’s shoes. It was taking too long. I grabbed the railing of the stairway. Step. Step. Step. I heard a distant siren. I turned the corner of the third floor. Step. Step. Step. Fourth floor. Fifth. Sixth. I was at the top now. I pulled the ladder down to get to the roof. Someone was right behind me. I climbed the ladder as if my life depended on it. It was true. I got on to the roof. My hair billowed in the wind. I neared the edge.
